Flat Roofs

 

A flat roofing system is used on any roof with a low slope or that is almost flat. We at B&C Roofing are certified to install many different types of flat roofs. Our team members attend classes to make sure their knowledge is up to date.

 

 There are many different options to pick from with this type of roof. There is a Hydro-Stop Roofing System, which is a water based 3 coat process consisting of a thick durable fiber cloth, a foundation coat that bonds with the fiber cloth, and finishing off with an appealing finish coat that comes in many colors.  Hydro-Stop provides you with a seamless finish and is considered a more "high end" product. Hydro-Stop can also be used to historically restore original tin roofs. Hydro-Stop has a typical lifespan of 15 years, depending on house conditions. Another similiar option is Urethane, it uses the same process as Hydro-Stop, however it is oil based, which makes it a more durable product. Urethane has a lifespan of 25-50 years, depending on house conditions and thickness of coat applied. The thicker the coat, the longer the lifespan.

There is a EPDM (short for ethylene propylene diene monomer)roof and it is more of a true rubber. The durable material resembles an inner tube, but it's engineered to resist damage from sunlight. EPDM can be mechanically anchored with fasteners, ballasted with stone, or glued. Howver in most cases we glue down with non-exposed clips and fasteners. EPDM only comes in white or black and will not have a seamless finish. EPDM has a lifespan of 10 years, depending on house conditions.

 

Another option is TPO, (Thermoplastic polyolefin) is a single-ply roofing membrane and is used more on commercial buildings. This product is very durable and can withstand damage from sunlight over years. This roof system typically last for 10-12 years.
